SENIOR DIRECTOR, PROGRAM & IMPACT

Dr. Megan Sweet is a systems-thinker who has been in education for more than 25 years as a teacher, school administrator, and school district leader.

As the Senior Director of Program and Impact at Mindful Schools, Megan oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of Mindful Schools’ programs.

Under her leadership, Mindful Schools developed The Mindful Schools Way and four Guiding Principles for bringing mindfulness to educational settings, The Mindful Schools Rubric, and The Domains of Mindful Teaching, all of which have served as a “north star” as the organization revised its training pathway to create more mindful, compassionate, and equitable learning environments.

Megan co-hosts The Mindful Schools Podcast and The Awakening Educator podcast, and recently authored, An Educator’s Guide for Using Your 3 Eyes. Megan led a successful grassroots campaign to serve as a Board Member for the Alameda Unified School District in the 2020 election cycle, naming her experience as a parent, active community member, and advocate for educational equity as her key motivators.

Megan is passionate about transforming our education system into one that is inclusive and supportive to all. She firmly believes in Mindful Schools’ inside out approach, saying, “When we build a supportive and heart-centered connection with ourselves and our colleagues first, we have the confidence and resilience to tackle the important work of transforming our school environments.”

Megan earned her BA in History from UC Davis, her MEd from Stanford University, and her EdD from Mills College. Her doctoral degree is in educational leadership, with a focus on education finance and managing change in educational settings.

Megan was raised in Berkeley, California, and currently resides in Alameda, California, with her young son and two dogs. Megan was first introduced to mindfulness in elementary school, and it has been a core part of her life since graduating high school.
