About Us

Mindful Schools (formerly the Community Partnership for Mindfulness in Education) empowers and supports young people by helping them fulfill their academic potential and be more emotionally aware, empathetic, and mindful of their thoughts and actions.  Mindfulness is our solution to the problems faced by young people because it enhances concentration, improves impulse control and decision-making, reduces violence and stress, and builds empathy and community.

To date, we have taught mindfulness to over 5,000 children in more than 20 schools.

Mindful Schools is a community outreach program of Park Day School, a private school in Oakland, CA.  Park Day School is a diverse, independent K-8 school with a 30 year history of progressive education.

Our New Web Site

We are delighted to announce our new web site: www.mindfulschools.org.  On this site, you can learn how mindfulness helps children, about our organization and our accomplishments, how to get Mindful Schools at a school you know, and much more.

Please help us to get the word out by sharing the link (and this newsletter) with anyone you think might be interested.

Community Gathering & Fundraising Brunch on May 2, 2009

Come and learn more about how you can help us provide our five-week mindfulness program to schools serving children primarily from low to moderate income families.  You will hear from students, teachers, and administrators who have experienced Mindful Schools first-hand.

Please email laurie@parkdayschool.org if you would like to attend, be a table captain or if you have any questions.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 2, 2009, from 11 am - 1 pm at Park Day School in Oakland, CA.

Mindful Schools Third Annual Summer Workshop on August 15-16, 2009

Our summer workshop offers attendees the opportunity to learn all about the program, as well as to meet with educators and other people who are excited about teaching mindfulness to children.  People who have a mindfulness practice and experience working with children have found that they have been able to take our program and make it work in their school or therapeutic environments.

Please email us at info@mindfulschools.org if you would like to register for this two-day event, which costs $225 (including lunch on both days).

Can't attend our workshop in California? We are cosponsoring a Mindfulness & Education Retreat at Omega in New York from July 31 to Aug 2, 2009.
