Beth Thornburg has been sharing her love of nature, animals, crafts and food with children and youth in non-classroom settings for more than four decades. Using this framework, she has opened a door for children to see people and cultures from around the world as global neighbors to be appreciated and embraced. For the last ten years as her own mindfulness practice developed, she incorporated mindfulness techniques and practice into her programming with children, staff and parents.
For the last 35 years, Beth has been the Director of the AFTER-SCHOOL program at the University School of Nashville. She established a neighborhood child centered environment where children could determine their own pace and activities. The out-of-class time provides the perfect environment for honing those social emotional skills that contribute to children’s self-awareness, self-management, creativity, and overall well-being, skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Retiring in spring of 2017, Beth is looking forward to sharing her interest in mindfulness with children and youth in Nashville and beyond!
