Specializing in offering mindfulness meditation at parent universities, offering mindfulness curriculum to upper elementary and middle school age students, and integrating art and music lessons, games, and activities within the scope of mindfulness and SEL.
Brian Upholz has taught in public education since 2007 specializing in science and music. He has over 5 years of experience in implementing and offering mindfulness curriculum to 6-8 grade classes, and over 2 years experience delivering mindfulness lessons to K-5th grade classes. Brian has partnered with Sarasota Mindfulness Institute to deliver afterschool care programs to both parents and elementary teachers. He has volunteered introduction to mindfulness meditation at parent universities in Sarasota county elementary schools for the past 3 summers. He also volunteers at Sarasota Mindfulness Institute to lead weekly guided mindfulness meditation sits for adults.
Integration of mindfulness practices as a middle school science teacher evolved into offering mindfulness practices to a broader K-7 grade student body. This came with his transitioning to a music educator serving a title 1 school. This change inspired activities and games that supplemented the Mindful Schools curriculum and enhanced rhythm and creative movement within his music classes.
Brian has recently chosen to resign from his position as a music educator. His focus is on moving forward with mindfulness, emotional learning, and art integrated practices for children, adolescence, and adults throughout Sarasota County. His hopes are to collaborate further as an outside provider with Sarasota County Schools.
