I specialize in working with young adults in the community college setting; integrating informal and formal mindfulness practices into the classroom setting; implementing mindfulness into campus cultures, including professional learning for teachers, staff, and administrators; using mindfulness as an avenue to create equity in our educational systems; and incorporating mindful self-compassion and mindful communication into mindfulness curriculum.
Deidre Hughes co-leads the Fullerton College Mindful Growth Initiative, a campus-wide initiative that combines mindfulness and growth mindset pedagogies and practice for students, staff, faculty, and administrators. This initiative offers drop-in mindfulness practice opportunities for all members of the campus community as well as training in mindfulness for personal, professional, and educational settings.
She is a teacher-in-training in Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) having been trained by Kristin Neff and Chris Germer through University of California, San Diego.
Deidre works as an outside provider for local community colleges and liberal arts colleges. Her trainings include mindfulness and growth mindset practices, grounded in neuroscience, while also integrating equity-minded, mindful self-compassion, and mindful communication practices.
Deidre believes wholeheartedly that academic success is inextricably linked to emotional well-being; therefore, she works to provide all students and teachers access to mindfulness, an accessible and research-proven practice.
