- Development of Performing Arts Curricula Based in a Contemplative Pedagogy
My work as an educator is dedicated to the development of the citizen performer. I integrate the skills I have built over a lifetime as a theatre maker with 20 years experience as an educator and 10 years of mindful practice to create contemplatively based arts education curricula. I am fulfilled by working with artists of all ages and helping them develop sustainable practices that enrich their lives, their collaborations and their careers.
Gleason was introduced to contemplative practices when she began her MFA training in Contemporary Performance at Naropa University in 2005. Inspired by a lineage of artist-practitioners going back to the founder of the school, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, she has since dedicated herself to integrating mindfulness practices into all aspects of her life and art.
As an educator at Marlborough School and beyond, Gleason incorporates contemplative practices into all aspects of her theatre curriculum, and artful games into her mindfulness lessons. She is dedicated to facilitating a space for her students where they can grow increasingly aware of themselves. With this awareness comes ever greater choice and with this expanded choice comes the possibility of a life lived with intention and purpose.
