I specialize in working with middle schoolers in the field of mindfulness based stress reduction and helping fellow educators bring mindfulness techniques and practices into their classrooms.
Heather Wurtzel has been teaching yoga and mindfulness to young people in the Atlanta area for over a decade. Most recently, she has focused her efforts at The Friends School of Atlanta implementing a school-wide mindfulness program teaching students in grades preK – 8th grade. Heather has received certifications through Mindful Schools (2017), Grounded Kids (2009) and YogaKids (2007) and she is currently pursuing a certification with Stressed Teens to teach the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction -Teens (MBSR-T) curriculum. Heather completed the MBSR course for adults with The Atlanta Mindfulness Institute in the fall of 2014 and has maintained a consistent practice of both formal and informal mindfulness meditation since that time. In 2008 Heather completed a 200hr Classical Yoga Teacher Training and holds certifications in pre/post-natal yoga. She currently teaches weekly prenatal yoga classes where she incorporates her mindfulness training in both movement and meditation.
The mother of two teenagers, Heather knows first hand how challenging it can be for teens today to stay grounded, connected and open-hearted. She believes that practicing mindfulness can be a key factor in helping young people today be their best selves and has a passion for sharing this practice with as many of them as possible.
