About My Work
- Classroom Teacher
- After School
- Education / Classroom Program
I specialize in middle and high school youth including special populations. Integrating mindfulness and NVC into instructional design, including curricular, technology, flexible spaces and equity of access in both implicit and explicit manners, I support students directly as well as teachers, departments and sites/ districts. My goal is to reach and support all learners.
Julia Leeson comes to this work with over a decade as a classroom teacher in public middles and high schools. She earned an undergraduate degree in Business, a masters in Learning Design Technology, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree studying the brain and learning. She started practicing mindfulness with her middle school students in 2014 as a way to keep students from breaking technology and was shocked to find not only her classroom but the entire site fairly rapidly transformed through the intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships developed. What followed was a dedicated full credit class, peer mediation, peer mediation coaching and a site dedicated mindfulness room driven and run by students. She also supports teachers in mindfulness implementation, instructional integration, socio-economic differential integration, as well as supporting students through site PBIS development. Her focus is anchored in the concepts of kindness, compassion, and radical self-acceptance.
