Laura C. Gourlay, M.A., LPC, LCSW began her career with Mt. Pleasant Public Schools in 1986 working as a teacher and school counselor in an alternative high school. Over the years, her passion for early intervention grew and she was able to move into the lower elementary buildings as a school counselor and now works with students DK-2nd grades. Laura began her own mindfulness practice in 2012 as she explored ways to navigate life changes and stress. In 2014, she began incorporating mindfulness into her work with students. She also offers after school mindfulness sessions for the K-12 staff in her district. Laura and her husband are the owners of Mid Michigan Family, LTD, a private mental health agency. She is the mother of one daughter.
Laura has become passionate about working with anti-bias curricula, non-violent communication, and restorative justice programs along with mindfulness. She recently received a grant to integrate the use of persona dolls into her work with DK -2 level students. Laura also partners with local storytellers to bring deep listening into her programming with youth.
Laura received her Master’s degree in Counseling form Central Michigan University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Michigan.
