Mary Martin is a decades-long meditator whose commitment to teaching mindfulness began when she became a parent in 2010. Her doctoral study in Applied Linguistics from New York University’s School of Teaching and Learning had cultivated her appreciation for seeking the structure, process, and wisdom that only experts can provide. This intention led her to study with with Dr. Amy Saltzman (Still Quiet Place) and Mindful Schools, and she began sharing mindfulness with children (pre-K through grade 12) in 2012 as an Outside Provider.
Mary considers herself a Mindfulness Fairy, sprinkling mindfulness dust wherever she goes and responding to whoever shows interest. She enjoys speaking with parents, administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders in search of a way to bring mindfulness to their schools, or simply clarification of what mindfulness is and what it isn’t.
Mary’s favorite classroom moment is when young children realize that thoughts continuously arise in the mind. Mary’s second favorite classroom moment is when those children see that they don’t need to engage the thoughts.
