Biography

Teaching has always been about heart for Maureen. A Certified YogaKids Inc. Teacher and former Middle School Teacher of almost 20 years, she shares her heart to fully connect and encourage self-kindness and compassion in her students. In recent years, as a Certified Mindfulness Instructor, she has been personally moved to support the hearts and inner lives of teachers through mindful self-care, while continuing her passion of sharing mindfulness with students.

As a Certified Yoga Teacher, Maureen addresses the needs of pre-school children through teens in a variety of specialized workshops and classes, as well as summer camps. Currently, she offers creative mindfulness and yoga programs that specialize in empowering girls of all ages, connecting moms and daughters, and engaging young families. Close to her heart, she focuses her energy addressing kids’ and teen anxiety in a variety of specialized programs as well. Maureen has completed additional trainings with Little Flower Yoga, Global Family Yoga, YogaFit Warrior Kids, and is a Certified Adult Yoga Teacher. She believes that through the practice of yoga and mindfulness, kids and teens can become empowered to understand emotions, reduce stress and anxiety, and bring ease and comfort in their minds and bodies.

In addition, Maureen offers Yoga, Mindfulness and Compassion Programs to schools and groups as an important piece of her work with kids and teens. A former Middle School Teacher, Maureen mindfully taught Language Arts and Global Studies. Her work as a Global Studies Teacher left a lasting impact as she shared community and global issues that provided teens with opportunities to develop compassion and make a difference. As a result, Maureen offers yoga and mindfulness programs with a special compassion component. Today’s youth practice mindfulness as global citizens by sharing time and talent in a service project focusing on a need in their community or world. Encouraging a community of kind kids who care about one another and the world around them is at the heart of her mindfulness teaching.

Maureen feels tremendous gratitude to the Mindful Schools community for the knowledge and experience gained through the Certified Mindfulness Instructor training. She is pleased to share this insight and experience to support students and teachers in the Chicago schools and surrounding suburbs. Maureen offers Mindful School programs as well as Self-Care for Teachers, Parent and Family Nights, and Parent Mindfulness Book Clubs. She is also open to tailoring a program to meet the needs of a school. She is excited about all of the wonderful possibilities to bring this important work to kids, teens and adults!
