I specialize in building school culture and empowering and creating teacher resilience practices. I have worked with integrating restorative practices with mindfulness and using nature as a teaching tool to build and strengthen relationships.
Sara has almost two decades of classroom experience as a special education teacher in city public schools. She started her own personal mindfulness practice in 2014 as a way to deal with her own difficult emotions and stress.
Sara is committed to integrated public schools by sending her own children to them and staying active in her community. She has worked with kindergarten through high school students in both large and small group settings. Sara continues to find ways to integrate and share mindfulness practices with students, families, and staff. She has five years of experience in restorative practices training and is committed to using trauma informed practices across all school and community settings. She is a mentor teacher in her district’s career in teaching department and provides guidance, support, and instruction for teachers beginning their career.
Sara was recently awarded a Social Emotional Learning grant to create a multi-level system of care for students so they can succeed emotionally and academically in their first year of high school. Her project will serve as an anchor to build confidence, empathy, understanding, and improved mental health for students who are seen as “failing.”
She is passionate about finding ways to elevate student voices from marginalized communities.
