Biography
Susan started her journey into mindfulness in 2010 to help her friend battling PTSD and a loved one suffering with ALS. As she studied mindfulness to help others, Susan learned a way of being that was truly healing for herself and those around her. She has been a devout partitioner since.
In 2013, she was invited by some curious teachers to show them what mindfulness looked like in the classroom. “Just give me six curious teachers, and I’ll help you grow a mindful community” is her motto. She started by planting seeds and demonstrating the Mindful Schools curriculum to students and teachers at Westchester Elementary, which grew into building a mindful culture through vocabulary and a toolbox of some core mindful exercises, which grew into fifteen teachers practicing mindfulness personally and daily in their classrooms in a variety of ways.
Susan is the founder of Chill STL, a mindfulness-based wellness program for students, teachers and families. Through Chill, she teaches weekly mindfulness lessons to students, develops a curriculum that addresses the unique needs of the school, works with teachers to help support them in their classrooms and personal practice, and meets with families to discuss how they can bring mindfulness into their homes.
She is honored to be granted the nickname of “Miss Chill” by her students at WE.
