Melanie has over 30 years of educational experience working in a variety of settings. She has extensive experience in providing professional training to staff & parents throughout the St. Louis area. Melanie is currently employed by Special School District of St. Louis County as the Effective Practice Specialist in the Early Childhood Department. Melanie created & maintains the county wide Early Childhood Special Education Student Support Teams to improve student behavior in the least restrictive environment. She is highly effective in the use of positive behavior support when working with students, their families, and staff to build capacity in the development of appropriate social emotional skills in young children. She is an energetic speaker, well versed in positive behavior support and classroom management.
Melanie began her mindfulness journey over 5 years ago by incorporating it into her personal and professional life. She has taken multiple training in mindfulness through Mindful Schools. She has completed the Mindfulness Fundamentals Course, The Educator Essentials Course, Mindful Communications Course, and the Year Long Certification program. Through these training Melanie became inspired by the teachings of Megan Cowan, Chris McKenna, and Vinny Ferraro which in turn increased her continued devotion for the practice of mindfulness. She continues to nurture her own personal practice, and increase her knowledge and skills. Melanie maintains her dedication through educating students, staff and parents on the importance of mindfulness and supporting young children in the development of awareness and strong social emotional competence. She is now sharing her appreciation for mindfulness by bringing it to others through embodied teaching.
