About Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn
Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., is a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He gives public talks and workshops throughout the world on mindfulness and its applications for moving toward greater sanity and balance in today’s multitasking, high-speed world. He is professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was founding executive director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society, and founder and former director of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic. He is the author of numerous books, including Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness, Coming to Our Senses, and Wherever You Go There You Are.

Dr. Kabat-Zinn has been a strong supporter of Mindful Schools since our inception and we are very grateful to him for doing this benefit for us. Proceeds from this event will pay for scholarships for schools and for teachers who wish to take our training programs.

About Mindfulness
Mindfulness has expanded into the field of business and even the military. Schools are the next logical frontier for this important tool as mindfulness teaches children to pay attention, enhances their impulse control, reduces stress for both students and teachers and helps to build community.

Dr. Kabat-Zinn will be speaking about the Role of Mindfulness in Education, a growing movement that has benefited tens of thousands of children and their teachers.

About Mindful Schools
The mission of Mindful Schools is to be a leader in the integration of mindfulness into the classroom. Mindful Schools is celebrating its fifth year bringing a 15-session mindfulness program to elementary schools throughout the Bay Area. To date, Mindful Schools has taught over 14,000 children in 53 schools. In addition, Mindful Schools offers two levels of training to adults: one on cultivating a personal mindfulness practice, and a second level on teaching mindfulness to children. To date, we have trained over 2,500 adults and have recently launched an online Mindfulness Fundamentals course which has garnered interest from around the world.

Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn

"If we can teach children that feelings are mentionable and manageable, we will have done a great service for mental health."
- Mister Rogers

"The faculty of voluntarily bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character, and will... An education which should improve this faculty would be the education par excellence."
